Sports Recap: December 23-January 31

Gymnastics:

The varsity gymnastics team is currently 4-1 conference. They have sectionals coming up on February 12th and the state series is also coming up on February 21st and the 22nd. “The best part of competitions is when everyone lands their routine on each event,” Kelsey Rothas, senior, said. “It’s a rush of energy for our whole team and just being able to keep the energy up the entire time and ultimately get a team high or break the school record which we have done the past 4 meets.”

 

Boys Basketball:

The boys basketball team’s current record is 7-12, with conference being 3-4. They won their conference game and their tournament game played on the 27th. The team has an upcoming game versus Lake Forest on Saturday, February 1st at Lake Forest High School.

 

Girls Basketball:

Girls varsity basketball has a record of 14-8, with conference being 7-2. Of the four tournament games they played over Winter Break, they won two. They also won the home-conference game against Zion-Benton by four points that they played on January 28th. They have a game scheduled for February 1st against Lake Forest.

 

Boys Bowling:

The Boys bowling team has an overall record of 6-8. They competed at the NSC Championship on January 10th. They had Regionals on the 18th, placing third overall. Sectionals were on the 25th, and Jason Morrison, senior and Alex Kouros, senior finished 11th and 12th overall.

 

Boys Track and Field:

First practices were held on January 27th, and they are practicing for the official start of their season.

 

Girls Track and Field:

First practices were held on January 21st, and they are also continuing to practice and prepare for the start of their season.

 

Poms: 

The varsity dance team’s competition season started, and they had the NSC Championship on January 17th. They competed in sectionals on January 25th, placing second overall, which earned them a place in the state finals for the fifth consecutive year. The state finals are on January 31st.

 

Wrestling:

The varsity wrestling team has a current record of 11-10. They have a home meet coming up against Waukegan on January 31st. They took 6th in Lake County, being led by Joey Mrazek and Logan Neurauter, senior captains. Mrazek (35-3) ranked 3rd and Neurauter added to a record of 31-6.

 

Cheerleading: 

Cheerleading has also begun their competition season. They had their NSC Championship on January 24th, getting 3rd place. The cheer team also ended their regular season on January 26th with a season high score. They will compete in sectionals on February 1st at Belvidere North. “Since sectionals is where we find out if we make it to state I’m really excited to hopefully continue the season for another week and get to go to state with my team,” Elizabeth Howe, sophomore, said. “Almost our whole team has been sick with the flu this week so I’m also very excited to push really hard and not let it stop us from achieving our goals.”
